2013 Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational - Reed HS Adriana Newell
Published by
Reed HS Adriana (only one "n") was the lone triple event individual winner in the 2013 Reed Sparks Rotary Invitational. The Kansas bound athlete won the 100, 200, and the 400m, and in doing so, set the stadium record in the 200m. Adriana broke ex-McQueen standout, Brianna Tate (Arizona State) record. Adriana's time moves her to top of the list on all three distances recorded so far in Nevada this season. The 2011state champion in the 100m was favored in other distances but injuries to the thigh opened the doors for the Las Vegas runners to claim the titles in the events she was penciled in already to be the winner. Shake those etch-a-sketch, Adriana is on a roll and if she stays injury free, and not second guess herself, she will go out on top.. hopefully in all three disciplines. The Reed HS girls team is on a revival of sort. The team numbers are up, way up from prior years. Success brings acceptance. Acceptance leads to envolvement. Envolvement means participation. Something is (FINALLY) going right over there. With all world Gabby Williams sidelined with a knee injury and will completely miss this season, the automatic 30+ points ( HJ, 110 hurdles, 300m hurdles) that Gabby brings are definitely missed. Don't fret.. the 2012-13 Nevada Basketball Girls Gatorade POY and the only teenager invited to the 2012 Olympics trials HJ , just gave #1 U Conn a verbal commitment to play round ball. How cool is that?
